A very scarce first impression, which has no folding maps. The maps were not made in time for this issue, and therefore were only published with the second issue. Original covers with gilt titling to spine in price clipped dust jacket. Contents clean, minor spotting to end papers and prelims, original dust jacket has a few small pieces missing and has been repaired in the past, old Sellotape markings, new repairs are with archival quality tape. Lars Christensen made and/or sponsored several voyages to the Antarctic 1927-3. While primarily for whaling & sealing, Christensen had a strong interest in exploration, and much good work was done, including several aerial surveys, photography & meteorology.
